Introduction 

Newmarket High School was officially opened in 1995 and  is the fourth oldest high school in Ontario. The school has stood as an integral part of its community, deeply embedded in its roots and proudly serving the community for five generations. The school’s current building features a range of facilities designed to enrich the overall educational experience. Notably, it houses the Bev Bernier Child Care Centre, operated by York Child Development & Family Services, as well as a full theatre, operated in collaboration with the Town of Newmarket.  Other notable facilities include an archive Room, an art lab with a darkroom, a communication technological lab, a construction lab, a design & technological lab, a family studies lab, a food lab, and music rooms. The school also provides ample outdoor spaces, including fields and a track, catering to various activities and interests.

Newmarket High School cultivates an environment that encourages the development of interpersonal relationships within the school community. The emphasis is placed on fostering open communication not only among staff and students but also extending this approach to interactions with parents and the broader community. The school values transparent and collaborative communication, promoting a sense of unity and connection among all stakeholders involved in the educational journey.

Highlights 

Newmarket High School boasts a roster of accomplished alumni who have made notable contributions in various fields. Among them, Emma Sophia Baker is recognized as an early 20th-century psychologist, while Munro Chambers has gained fame as an actor in productions like "The Latest Buzz" and "Degrassi: The Next Generation." B.J. Crombeen, a former professional ice hockey winger in the National Hockey League, and Brian Elliott, the goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers, represent the school's excellence in sports. Other distinguished alumni include Michelle Long, a figure skater; Hugo Lopez, a defensive back for the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL; and Robin Mackin, a Canadian Olympic softball player who secured silver at the 2007 Pan American Games. These accomplished individuals reflect the diverse achievements and success stories that have emerged from Newmarket High School.

Academics 

Newmarket High School features a variety of academic programs to cater towards the needs and interests of its students. These include the Advanced Placement program, a French immersion program, as well as the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in Business, Construction, and Health and Wellness. The school also offers the High Performance Athlete (HPA) program for competing athletes as well as Dual Credit for students who are looking to  take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree or a Certificate of Apprenticeship.
