Founded in 1901, St. Clements School (SCS) is a top private girls’ school in Toronto, Ontario, known for its balanced approach to education. St. Clements School Academics

St. Clements School’s provides a rich and diverse curriculum for students at every grade level from junior to senior school, covering a wide range of subjects. With a focus on engaging and challenging coursework, students are encouraged to think critically, explore their creativity, and develop a genuine love for learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Junior School (Grades 1-6)

The junior school at St. Clements School emphasizes discovery and strong academic foundation, highlighting collaboration, problem solving and inquiry. From language arts and French, to science, mathematics and technology, students are exposed to a wide range of subjects to develop their academic background with skills and knowledge.

Students in junior school are allotted time each week to participate in co-curricular activities. There are a broad range of choices to pick from, with athletics beginning in grade 1. Competitive athletics between schools begin in grade 4, and all students are encouraged to participate and play, with SCS using a ‘maximum participation’ model, and having no tryouts.

Middle School (Grades 7-9)

St. Clements School recognizes middle school as a period of transition, serving as a bridge between childhood and adolescence. The curriculum is designed to deepen the students’ understanding and promote independent thinking, encouraging interdisciplinary understanding and thinking. Students engage with more complex material in subjects like math, science, humanities, and the arts, having instruction from teachers who specialize in specific subjects.

Students in middle school at St. Clements once again have access to a wide variety of co-curricular activities. These range from academic related activities to community affairs and also the arts, providing opportunities for the interests of all students. Additionally, athletic teams now have tryouts, however SCS aims for full participation, where each student can find a team or activity to join if they wish.

Senior School (Grades 10-12)

In senior school at St. Clements, students experience continued academic and leadership growth, while having the ability to individualize their curricular path. Students in senior school have access to a wide array of 18 Advanced Placement (AP) courses taught by teachers in order to challenge and prepare themselves for university and beyond, with a 100% acceptance rate to top universities in the world. Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on leadership, global perspectives and experiential learning.

The co-curricular programs in senior school allow students to not only participate in activities that cater to their interests, but also give them the opportunity to provide leadership with the multitude of student-led clubs, allowing them to interact and mentor each other. On top of the many clubs and activities, there are many sports and teams at St. Clements for students to participate in, from basketball and soccer, to alpine skiing, ice hockey and swimming.

Tuition and Fees at St. Clements School

As an independent school, St. Clements School relies entirely on tuition and donations, with no financial support from the government. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the annual tuition is set at $38,000, with both standard and monthly payment plans available to accommodate families.

Additionally, there are a few other fees to keep in mind:

  • Acceptance Fee: A one-time, non-refundable fee of $9,500.
  • Registration Deposit: A non-refundable annual fee of $5,000, applied to the yearly tuition.
  • Security Fee: A refundable fee of $500, returned when the student leaves the school, barring any unforeseen loss or damage.
  • Annual Fund Donation: A recommended minimum contribution of $2,000 per family, which is tax-deductible.

St. Clements School is dedicated to ensuring that exceptional students from diverse backgrounds can attend, regardless of their financial situations. Renewable financial assistance is available for students in Grades 7 to 12, and the school partners with Apple Financial to assess family needs. There are also a limited number of merit-based entrance scholarships for new students entering grades 7 and 9. For those interested in either financial assistance or merit-based scholarships, applications are due by December 1, 2024, for the 2025-2026 school year.
