Grade 11 and 12 Chemistry Tutoring

The Ontario high school chemistry curriculum in Ontario offers students a comprehensive exploration of chemical principles, from foundational concepts in Grade 11 to advanced topics including organic chemistry, energy transformations, and environmental impact assessment in Grade 12.

Grade 11 Chemistry Tutoring

Surprisingly for many parents (and students new to the course), Grade 11 Chemistry tutoring incorporates a significant amount of mathematical concepts. Developing an intuitive grasp of unit rates, ratios, and proportions is essential for students to tackle Grade 11 Chemistry topics more effectively. Moreover, they need to be adept at applying these mathematical principles to various chemical equations, processes, and atomic and molecular quantities.

During chemistry tutoring, our tutors present students with three distinct methods for understanding proportional relationships in Grade 11 chemistry: algebraic techniques, logical reasoning, and dimensional analysis. This approach empowers students to choose the method that resonates most with them and enables them to apply it confidently.

Additionally, we cover topics such as Bond Enthalpies, Acid-Base reactions, Buffers, and VSEPR theory whenever possible. These topics not only reinforce their comprehension of Grade 11 Chemistry material but also lay a foundation for Grade 12 Chemistry, where they are explored in greater depth.

Grade 12 Chemistry Tutoring

In Grade 12 Chemistry, students delve deeper into the realm of chemistry, exploring organic chemistry, the characteristics of matter’s structure, energy transformations, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Through investigating various chemical processes, students hone their problem-solving and investigative abilities while enhancing their proficiency in communicating scientific findings. The curriculum highlights the significance of chemistry in everyday contexts and underscores the critical evaluation of chemical technology’s environmental ramifications.

York Region Tutoring urges all students to complete the past tests that we have compiled specifically from YRDSB/YCDSB school teachers from our Past Test Bank. Tests in Grade 11 and 12 math and sciences tend to follow a very strict layout, and so completing them will give students the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses as well as direct their attention to topics that require more attention. Completing past tests also allows students to approach school evaluations with more confidence as they are familiarized with the organization of the test & general nature of questions asked. *Please note: while there are clear trends in the types of questions asked on tests, it is not guaranteed that past test questions will map perfectly onto school evaluations, since test-making is ultimately a subjective endeavor, meaning teachers can and do exercise their creative liberties when writing tests.
