In 1895, Reverend Alexander Mackenzie bought the school, shaping its educational vision by blending academics with arts, sports, and outdoor experiences.
Gordon Winder Smith later took on the Headmaster role, overcoming financial hurdles, and Jack Matthews helped establish the school’s membership in the Round Square Conference. A major turning point came in 1985 when David Hadden made LCS coeducational, enriching its community further.
With significant campus expansions and modern facilities, Lakefield continues to embody its motto, mens sana in corpore sano—a sound mind in a sound body.
