Introduction

Langstaff Secondary School, located in Richmond Hill, was officially opened in 1964 and is named after Dr. James Langstaff, former reeve of Richmond Hill in 1880. The school aspires to be a community of learners characterized by respect, trust, and courage. Celebrating diversity, its mission is to develop a strong community and promote student learning. Langstaff Secondary School also focuses on creating a positive and inclusive environment that promotes both academic success and personal growth.

The school had undergone a major renovation in 2003, resulting in the expansion and addition of facilities to enhance the student experience. The current three-story building consists of two gymnasiums, with the larger one serving as an auditorium. The original library was transformed into a versatile room used for special education services and various classes. Notably, the school is wheelchair accessible, equipped with ramps and a functional elevator. In 2006, from May to July, the school underwent a major roofing cleaning and change, with updates to air conditioning, plumbing, and other essential building systems.
