Overview of Montcrest School

Founded in 1961, Montcrest School is an independent co-educational institution located in Toronto, dedicated to nurturing young minds from junior kindergarten through Grade 8. With small class sizes, Montcrest fosters a close-knit community where students thrive through inquiry-based learning. The school emphasizes 21st-century skills like technology, critical thinking, and creativity, preparing students to navigate and succeed in a rapidly changing world. At Montcrest, every child is encouraged to explore their interests and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Montcrest School Academics

Montcrest School takes pride in its academic philosophy, which revolves around nurturing curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Here, students are encouraged to take the lead in their learning, exploring new ideas in a supportive environment. The dedicated faculty play a vital role, guiding students through engaging, hands-on experiences that foster a genuine love of learning.

Montcrest’s small class program offers a more personalized educational experience, with smaller student-teacher ratios. This setup allows faculty to give each child the attention they need, particularly those with diverse learning requirements, helping them flourish academically and socially.

Junior and Senior Kindergarten

In Kindergarten, the focus is on tapping into the natural curiosity and imagination of young learners. The curriculum is designed to engage students through play and exploration, allowing them to discover and interact with the world around them. This approach lays a strong foundation for a lifelong love of learning, sparking creativity and wonder in every child.

Grades 1-5

For Grades 1-5, Montcrest aims to inspire a true passion for learning. The school creates a dynamic environment that promotes inquiry, encouraging students to ask questions, think critically, and dive into their interests. This student-centered approach helps develop essential skills and cultivates a positive attitude toward education.

Grades 6-8

As students move into Grades 6-8, Montcrest prepares them for high school with a structured learning environment focused on academic achievement and critical thinking. Here, students engage in collaborative projects and inquiry-based learning, building the confidence and resilience they need for future challenges.

Montcrest Extracurricular Activities

At Montcrest, education extends beyond the classroom, with a co-curricular program designed to help students discover their passions. This program includes a variety of activities in athletics, the arts, leadership, and special interests.

During recess, students can participate in a range of clubs led by dedicated faculty, offering options such as Lego Club, Dungeons & Dragons, Dance Club, and Montcrest Singers. Each term brings fresh opportunities for engagement and creativity. Additionally, Extra-Curricular After School Programs, in partnership with community organizations, provide enriching activities beyond regular school hours.

In athletics, Montcrest follows the “Sport for Life, Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity” philosophy, promoting physical literacy and offering age-appropriate opportunities for sports participation. Physical education classes are provided for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, both indoors and outdoors. Students also have the chance to join developmental and competitive teams in the Canadian Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA).

For added convenience, the Aftercare program ensures students are supervised and engaged in a safe environment until parents can pick them up. Montcrest’s co-curricular offerings enrich the educational experience, fostering personal growth and enabling students to thrive socially and emotionally.
