History of Royal St. George’s College
Royal St. George’s College (RSGC) was founded in 1961 as an Anglican choir school, initially focusing on the musical traditions of the Anglican Church. The vision came from John Bradley and Dr. Healey Willan, with support from St. Andrew’s College teachers, Jack Wright and John Allen. In 1964, RSGC opened its doors at St. Alban-the-Martyr in Toronto, combining academic rigor with choir training.
By the late 1980s, the school had grown, building new facilities and establishing a strong academic reputation. In 1989, RSGC earned the “Royal” designation, granted by Queen Elizabeth II, marking a significant moment in its history. The school became the only pre-university institution in Canada to hold this distinction, officially changing its name to Royal St. George’s College.
