St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School (St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS), located at 278 Wellington Street East in Aurora, Ontario, is a prominent educational institution administered by the York Catholic District School Board. The school is named after Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Franciscan priest from Poland who was incarcerated and executed at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.
History of St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS
The school first opened its doors to students in September 2009. Initially, it catered to less than 800 students in grades 9 and 10. By the 2010/2011 school year, St. Max, as it is affectionately known, expanded to include grade 11. The following school year saw the school teaching curriculum for grades 9 to 12, and it graduated its first senior class in June 2012. By June of the following year, St. Max had graduated its first class of students who had attended the institution from grades 9 to 12.

St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS is known for its strong academics with a wide variety of learning options and co-curricular activities. The school boasts an artificial turf sports field, three gymnasiums, a full track, and a state-of-the-art fitness room. It has a long tradition of supporting student athletes and has offered a wide variety of athletic and co-curricular experiences for its students.
In September 2023, St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS opened the York Catholic District School Board’s second High Performer Athlete program (HPA). This program supports elite student-athletes by providing flexible schedules and allowing students to earn Phys Ed credits while training. The HPA program is aimed at students who participate in provincial, national, or international competition and are involved in at least 15 hours per week of training.
