St. Robert Catholic High School (St. Robert CHS) is a secondary school located in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. Also nicknamed St. Robs, it is part of the York Catholic District School Board and is named after its patron saint, St. Robert Bellarmine, an Italian cardinal of the Catholic Church.

History of St. Roberts CHS

St. Robert Catholic High School was the first high school in the York Catholic District School Board. The high school was first established in 1975 on the original site of St. Robert Elementary School. In January 1989, the final addition was added to the school to complete the high school as it exists today. The school celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2015, marking a significant milestone in its history.

Academics

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum that caters to the diverse learning needs of its students. It offers special programs such as the International Baccalaureate program, ESL, and Aviation Technology. The school’s commitment to academic excellence is reflected in its ranking as one of the top-ranking secondary schools in Ontario according to the Fraser Institute. For 2017, the school scored 9.2 (out of 10), ranking 18th out of 747 schools across Ontario in the Fraser Institute’s Report Card on Ontario’s Secondary Schools 2019.

Extra-Curricular Activities

St. Robert Catholic High School believes in the holistic development of its students and offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities. The school’s team name is The Lions, with the mascot being Roary the Lion.

Sports

Students compete with other schools in the York Region Athletic Association in both Junior (Grades 9 and 10) and Senior (Grades 11 and 12) Divisions. As of 2014, the YRAA included 52 high schools across York Region, with most of its schools coming from either the York Catholic District School Board or the York Region District School Board, although there are several private schools involved as well.

Clubs and Councils

The school has a vibrant student government and various councils including Arts Council, Athletic Council, French Council, Social Justice Student Council, STEM Council, and Chaplaincy Council. All councils have a President that meets monthly with the Principal as part of the President Council.
