Introduction
Stouffville D.S.S. is named after the town of Stouffville and the surrounding Stouffville-Whitchurch area. Officially inaugurated in 1954, the school witnessed multiple additions in 1960, 1963, 1965, and 1967. In September 2007, a modern facility at Hoover Park Drive and Weldon Road was introduced, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities.
The school operates on a foundation of core values that shape its actions, emphasizing inclusivity, relationships, innovation, engagement, responsibility, and optimism. These principles underscore the school’s commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging environment.
Stouffville District’s facilities encompass various indoor spaces such as labs for transportation technology, art, communication technology, wood technology, and computer engineering.
Outdoor facilities comprise a baseball diamond, an asphalt track, student parking, and three fields, one of which is equipped with night lights, along with an outdoor classroom. The school has also achieved gold certification as an eco-school, utilizing a 24-hour control system to adjust temperature and ventilation when unoccupied. It also employs non-toxic, low-odour paints and carpeting, Energy Star-rated electrical equipment, as well as environmentally friendly roof and insulation materials.
Highlights
Stouffville District High School boasts numerous successful sports teams. In the 2006/2007 season, both the girls and boys senior hockey teams clinched the first-ever OFSAA victory. The Stouffville Spartans have gained widespread recognition particularly in OFSAA, where they secured gold in various categories, including Girls Hockey in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, Boys Hockey in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, and Boys Rugby in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008. Additionally, the Spartans have consistently secured numerous YRAA (York Region Athletic Association) titles, showcasing their dominance in the sports arena.
Academics
Stouffville District offers the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in Health and Wellness as well as the High Performance Athlete (HPA) program for students who are competing at the provincial, national and/or international level. Students may also enroll in Dual Credit (DC) through which they can take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree or a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Additionally, Stouffville District features Quadmester Programs (QP) which are geared towards students seeking to catch up on their credits or reimage their school experience.
