Situated in the vibrant Vellore Village neighborhood of Vaughan, Tommy Douglas Secondary School (TDSS) in Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, opened its doors on February 3, 2015. The school is named after Thomas “Tommy” Clement Douglas (1904–1986), the seventh Premier of Saskatchewan, renowned for introducing North America’s first single-payer universal healthcare system. A key advocate for social justice, Douglas had a profound influence on Canada’s political landscape. He was the first leader of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP) and is widely recognized as the visionary behind Canada’s Medicare system.

Tommy Douglas SS offers the Dual Credit (DC) program through which students can take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree or a Certificate of Apprenticeship. It also features the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in Arts & Culture, Business, Health & Wellness, Hospitality & Tourism, and Non-Profit. Tommy Douglas is pleased to offer courses in English, Business, Computer Studies, Co-operative Education, Dramatic Arts, Family Studies, French, Geography, History, Italian, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science, Spanish, Technology, and Visual Arts.
The Physical & Health Education department at Tommy Douglas Secondary School offers a comprehensive program designed to support the holistic development of students, addressing physical, social, emotional, and intellectual aspects. The program aims to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment where all students, regardless of skill or experience level, feel comfortable and involved. Through the Teaching Games for Understanding approach, students are encouraged to develop movement skills and apply strategies across a variety of sports, games, and fitness activities.
